Early Years: The Curriculum at St. Helen's Primary School is built around Development Matters. Your child will be taught through the areas of learning which are:

PRIME AREAS/SPECIFIC AREAS

  • Communication and Language

  • Physical Development

  • PSED

  • Literacy

  • Maths

  • Understanding of the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

Assessment is based around classroom observation using the Early Learning Goals. We wholly believe in engaging parents as part of our Curriculum within Early Years and parents will have opportunities throughout the year to participate.

Year 1:

Within Year 1 pupils will be taught through an engaging, skills and knowledge base Curriculum that provides the opportunity for links with the local community. This Curriculum builds upon the work from Foundation Stage and ensures pupils are able to develop their skills through a variety of learning opportunities and styles.

Year 2:

Within Year 2 pupils will be taught through an engaging, skills and knowledge base Curriculum that provides the opportunity for links with the local community. Pupils in this year group will have mastered the expectations of the Curriculum of Key Stage 1 by providing and building upon the extended opportunities that school offers.

Year 3/4/5/6:

Within Year 3 pupils will be taught through an engaging, skills and  knowledge base Curriculum that provides the opportunity for links with the local community. Building upon Key Stage 1 pupils will experience a wide variety of opportunities through real life experiences.
