Class 9 (Year 6) - Miss Richardson

Hello and Welcome to Class 9 with Miss Richardson and Mrs Foreman.

 This page is your go-to place for key information about our Year 6 class. Here, you will find important updates, useful information, upcoming dates, class news and anything else you need to know throughout the school year.

In Year 6, we build on previous learning with a strong focus on reading, writing and mathematics, while continuing to enjoy a broad and engaging curriculum as we prepare for our SATs testing.

We're looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, growing and making memories together!

Reading Journals

As ever, reading is such a big focus this year. Your child will bring their reading journal home with them daily. We encourage children to read at home every night and write a comment in their journals.

Water Bottles

Children can bring a water bottle to school. It should be labelled with your child's name. Children will bring their bottles home daily for cleaning. 

Homework 

Spelling

Children will receive weekly spellings on a Friday via the EDShed App. Children should practise these at home through the week. We will be tested on our spelling list in class the following Friday morning. Please speak to Miss Richardson for help with logging in.

Maths

Children will receive weekly maths homework on a Friday via the EDShed App. This will reinforce our learning from the week in class. Children should aim to complete this by the following Friday. Please speak to Miss Richardson for help with logging in.

PE

Swimming lessons take place every Monday. Children should wear a suitable swimming costume or swimming trunks. Bikinis and loose-fitting shorts are not permitted for health and safety reasons. 

Our PE session in school is on a Thursday. Children should bring their PE kit for this: a plain white T-Shirt and black shorts.

SATs Testing

 During Year 6, pupils will take their Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs). These assessments take place in May and cover English Reading, English grammar, punctuation and spelling, and mathematics. 

SATs are an opportunity for children to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout their time in primary school. We will spend time in class preparing the children to feel happy, confident and ready for testing, without worries or pressure. We will keep parents and carers informed throughout the year about important dates, arrangements and ways you can support your child at home.
